Make Music Chicago 2019 – Chicago Joins 1000 Cities

The International Music Foundation is pleased to present Make Music Chicago 2019. On Friday, June 21, 2019, Chicago will join over 1,000 cities around the world in the largest single-day celebration of music. 

Inspired by France’s Fête de La Musique, Make Music Chicago is a free, citywide, do-it-yourself music festival. Chicagoans of all ages and musical abilities, from seasoned professionals to those with no music experience, are invited to make music at any of the Make Music Chicago events, which include free sing-alongs, play-alongs, lessons, and performances.

MMC Rise and Shine Orchestra Philamonjaro

Led by Artistic Director Kuang-Hao Huang, Make Music Chicago will feature over 150 participatory events and performances, across 75 locations throughout Chicago. For a full schedule of events please visit makemusicchicago.org/schedule.

Chicago Riverwalk – between Michigan Avenue and Lake Street*

Make Music Chicago is thrilled to be offering a full evening of play-alongs, sing-alongs, and free music lessons along the Chicago Riverwalk. Instruments will be provided, just bring yourself! See below list of key locations:

Gallagher Way – 3635 N. Clark Street* 

Make Music Chicago is bringing our much-loved concert band play-along, Sousapalooza, to Gallagher Way! Bring your instrument and play some marches alongside the Navy Band Great Lakes. If you play flute, stick around for a play-along with the Chicago Flute Club later in the evening. Event schedule as follows:

Try your hand at steel pans, harmonica and an array of percussion instruments at Breakey Theatre before jumping into a jam session with the South Side Jazz Coalition! Instruments will be provided, just bring yourself! Event schedule as follows:

Pianos In The Parks

Pianos in the Parks offers everyone the opportunity to play a piano outdoors this summer. Each instrument is launched on June 21st as part of Make Music Chicago and will remain in the park for anyone to play until August 1st. 

If you’ve never played before but want to try it out you can stop by for a free introductory lesson during one of the scheduled times. Or if you have some experience already, feel free to sit down and tickle the ivories any time during each park’s open hours.
