On June 27th, Maddox Gallery Los Angeles hosted an event in celebration of the opening of their latest art exhibition, “Postcards from L.A.”, by John Tierney. Influenced by the works of Edward Hopper, Peter Blake and David Hockney, “Postcards from L.A.” celebrates the modern American landscape as seen through the eyes of one of Britain’s most exceptional contemporary artists.

Working primarily in oils, Tierney creates stunning large-scale paintings that provide a strong sense of place, transporting viewers to the sun-kissed streets and iconic locations that have had a profound influence on his practice. Conveying each intricate detail he sees before him, he visits these various locales as an ‘outside’ observer – one fascinated by the differences between them and the urban and rural landscapes of Britain.
