In 2011, Pork Chop lovers united to designate August 27 as National Pork Chop Day. On this day, the Pork Chop Day Menu is available upon request and features an 18-ounce lunch cut portion. Perry’s Steak & Grille also serves the ultimate, optimum, beloved, 32-ounce, sizzling, juicy, seven-finger succulent chop. The seven-finger designation is how butchers and customers historically would order their desired thickness of meats. This signature chop is rubbed with proprietary seasonings, cured, and then roasted on a rotisserie over pecan wood for four to six hours. You will fall in love with this pork chop and be happy because it can also be ordered online. There is even an instructional online video of Chris Perry, the owner, carving this behemoth pork chop. Perry’s has twenty-three locations across the United States, with three in Illinois: Oak Brook, Schaumburg, and their newest location in Vernon Hills.
On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, celebrating National Pork Chop Day, Perry’s has such a deal for you. They are honoring the day with four courses for $44.00, including all your Perry’s Pork Chop favorites plus more from 4:00 p.m. until close. If you cannot make it that day, there is always the Friday lunch-cut savory pork chop portion served with whipped potatoes, homemade delicious applesauce, and sourdough bread for a meager price of $19.00. Also, every Sunday at 4:00 p.m., to close Dine-In or To-Go, there is a 3-course Sunday Supper Special for $49.00 with Perry’s famous Pork Chop, your choice of soup or salad, and a decadent finale, their Dessert Trio.
Perry’s has an exciting background and a good food story. It began in 1979, with Bob Perry opening a modest butcher shop and delicatessen in Houston, Texas. By 1986, Chris Perry, Bob’s entrepreneurial son, persuaded his dad to add dining tables to the popular establishment, thus delighting their loyal customers. In 1993, a premier restaurant expansion began and has continued through 2024. Perry’s remains true to its high-quality roots while excelling at the unexpected experience.
My friend and I recently chose to dine in luxury at the Schaumburg location at 1789 East Golf Road, next to the Hyatt Regency Hotel across from Woodfield Mall. It is an Aria Architect-designed sleek, modern, luminous, jewel-like, glamorous, glitzy, 12,000 square-foot five-star establishment offering accommodations for 330 guests. The Schaumburg location has four private dining rooms, including their temperature-controlled plush outdoor patio, which qualifies as a luxurious lounge featuring a stunning fireplace. Perry’s Bar 79®, overlooking the patio and expansive wine wall, is a full-service bar named after the year they opened their small meat market.
The hostesses were gracious and welcoming, seating us quickly and comfortably at a booth in the main dining area. Eddie, our outstanding, hospitable, and personable server, introduced himself and asked if we had been here before. I had, while my friend had not. He inquired if we would like the whole spiel. We affirmed that we would. We received a brief history and excellent suggestions for enhancing our dining experience.
A sourdough loaf of bread with spreadable butter arrived promptly at our table. My friend ordered a fantastic Mango Fizz mocktail garnished with a Dendrobium Orchid. We chose the 4-ounce Lobster Tempura as our appetizer. It was the perfect portion for two to share and was accompanied by a delicious sauce and drawn butter. It was simply scrumptious. For entrees, we chose the Coffee-Crusted Prime Ribeye and, of course, the sweet, smoky, sizzling chop.
Fivos Antonopoulos, the charming, dapper General Manager, expertly carved the cured chop for us table-side. He elaborated on the features of the cut of meat, educating us on the eyelash, tenderloin, and ribs. The chop is served with a delicious homemade applesauce. We went the whole hog, ordering the loaded whipped potatoes with cheddar cheese, bacon, green onions, and sour cream as our side for two. My friend finished her meal with a cinnamon-topped cappuccino, and the staff boxed up our takeaway dinners. At the end of the meal, she commented that the steak was cooked perfectly and the whole experience was the best she ever had. I agree.
